New premises for Geesinknorba Emmeloord

Geesinknorba is proud to announce that the first piles were driven into the ground for a new building at the Werktuigenweg in Emmeloord. The new premises will accommodate Sales & Service Benelux and the Central Spare Parts Warehouse. The relocation of the Branch Benelux and Warehouse from our head office at the Betonweg in Emmeloord is necessary as the production area needs more space to further modernize operations. With the new building both Branch Benelux and Central Spare Parts Warehouse can make a big step forward. This will enable Geesinknorba to professionalize and further grow our activities in the near future.

McCain Foods Lelystad begins line expansion

McCain Foods potato processing plant in Lelystad begins line expansion to further grow its footprint in the Dutch communityMcCain Foods announced today that it has broken ground on an expansion project for the Lelystad manufacturing facility located in the Dutch province of Flevoland. This expansion project inc ludes a line increase of 33% and a substantial investment of 65 million EUR to complete the plant upgrade. McCain Foods entered the European and Dutch market with the acquisition of its first plant in Lewedorp in 1973 – further expanding to acquire the Lelystad plant in 1991. This expansion will allow McCain to meet the demands of the market and increase local employment, while enhancing the efficiency of operations with a continued key focus on people safety and food safety. “This expansion provides a profound future for the 250 employees of Lelystad,” said Luc Geurts, Lelystad Plant Manager.

Logistics Cluster Flevoland is an initiative of the municipalities of Almere, Lelystad and Zeewolde, Windesheim University, ROC Flevoland, Horizon Flevoland and Win4All - Economic Board Flevoland. The Cluster is supported by organizations such as Lelystad Airport Businesspark and Werkbedrijf Lelystad. Logistics Cluster Flevoland brings entrepreneurs, education and governments together to give further substance to the Logistics Hotspot Almere-Lelystad-Zeewolde. This year the region finished third on the list of top logistics locations in the Netherlands. The initiators would like to structurally strengthen logistics in the region by giving substance to the program lines: Training & Labor Market, Innovation & Business Development, Infrastructure and Regional Promotion / Logistic Hotspot.

Kobelco Almere; ninety years of innovation and excellence!

In 1930, Kobelco created Japan’s first electric mining shovel, which paved the way for all future Kobelco construction machinery and set the tone for decades of pioneering technological developments. By 1960, Kobelco completed the Okubo factory and manufacturing of construction machinery began. Today, this factory still exists and is dedicated to the production of Kobelco cranes. It is one of four Kobelco factories in Japan. In 1967, the first crawler-type hydraulic excavator was produced by using Kobelco-own technology, the H208, kickstarting another 40 years of Kobelco innovation with the release of the SK-New MARKII series of hydraulic excavators (1987), the urban-type hydraulic excavator “Acera” series (1989) and the “Beetle” series of short rear tail swing mini excavators (1996).

On 23 June the American Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands, the Embassy of the United States and Horizon Flevoland organized a unique online event. A select group of international business leaders, all based in Flevoland, took part in an online roundtable with U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra and AmCham program director Elke Roelant. With this roundtable Horizon Flevoland was able to connect local enterprises with American connections with each other in order to find common ground and stimulate networking.

The Sherwin-Williams Company On a Friday afternoon we visited The Sherwin-Williams Company. This company is established in Lelystad and Theo Wemmers has been the managing director for many years. The Sherwin-Williams Company is one of the big players in the field of varnishes and paints. It currently employs over 220 members of staff and, as it continues to be hard to find properly trained staff, Valspar has its own training centre in a building adjacent to its head-office. Two and a half years ago the original company Valspar was acquired by The Sherwin-Williams Company and as a result, the control has changed course.

Ocean Choice International Ocean Choice recently took its next step in conquering the world. This Canadian company has chosen Urk, the fish centre of Europe in the province of Flevoland, as its location to further develop the European market. The Nova Scotia-based company covers the entire supply chain, from fishing with its own fleet in the Atlantic waters on Canada’s east coast to delivering the final products to the wholesalers or supermarkets in America, Europe and the Far East. The choice for Urk was clear from the beginning. The former island and its fishing community are, because of the dikes, a hundred miles from the nearest shore.

Giant establishes its own European distribution centre in Flevoland

The Ground Breaking Ceremony was on friday the 6th of september between 11:00-13:00. Bicycle producer Giant is investing 13.5 million Euro in a new distribution centre in Lelystad. The distribution centre will cover 22,000 square metres and will be built as an addition to the existing production facilities in Flevoland. The additional buildings are intended to allow the brand to better streamline the distribution, storage and after-sales service for Europe, in particular for specialities and e-bikes.

Collaboration with Chinese province of Cheijiang intensified

A high-level delegation from the Chinese Province of Zhejiang, led by Vice-Governor Mrs Liang, visited the Province of Flevoland in September. Flevoland has had an amicable relationship with the Province of Zhejiang for 20 years. King's Commissioner Leen Verbeek and Horizon jointly welcomed the delegation in the Provincial Government Building. Besides participating in the China Business Week in Rotterdam, this visit mainly intended to strengthen the ties with European partners now that the relationship with the USA is under pressure. The possibilities of deepening and strengthening the economic ties were explored during the meeting.

Data centres are looking for space

Recently, the Amsterdam region announced to want to exercise caution in its offer of space to meet the growing demand for data centres. For some time now, Flevoland has been pleased with the interest of the large players in this field. The hyper-scale data centres are searching the country ever more intensively for business locations with potential. For ‘intersections’ where large-scale space, energy supplies (preferably sustainably generated), cooling water/use of residual heat and connections (digital and logistical) meet. With the Province of Flevoland, Horizon will research the options that the Province has to offer in more detail.
